CLAUDIA KLASICKA

CLAUDIA KLASICKA

Claudia Klasicka was born in Glasgow in 1948 and lived and worked for most of her life in Bristol, London and Stratford-upon-Avon. She studied singing privately with Florence Wiese Norberg, Laura Sarti and Duncan Robertson, and had further coaching from Jane Manning and Linda Hirst. Her studies also included participation in a number of contemporary music courses including Arnolfini (Bristol) and the Arvon Foundation.

During her life, Claudia gave recitals both in Britain and abroad, and performed with ensembles including the Medusa Ensemble, Uroboros Ensemble and Currentes. In the 1970s, she participated in the national touring sound-sculpture exhibition A Noise in Your Eye, in which her vocal improvisations (with electronic treatment) were transmitted live around the world.

Claudia was a singing teacher for many years and, in addition to giving private lessons, structured and led numerous voice workshops for adults. Singing – it's easy!, published shortly before her sudden death on the 2nd of December, 2025, is a joyful expression of the clarity, warmth and sense of fun for which she was known and admired as a teacher.

Beyond her activities as a singer and voice trainer, Claudia was also involved in Arabic dance, which she studied in Britain, North Africa and Germany. She gave many dance performances in Britain, France, Poland, Italy and Tunisia.

In addition to her activities in the performing arts, Claudia received training in R.E.T. (Rational Emotive Therapy), the principles of which informed her work as a teacher of dance and singing, as she aimed to make the process of learning clear, simple and rewarding.

Claudia is survived by her husband Gwyn Pritchard and daughters Alwynne and Victoria, all of whom have been inspired as artists and in their lives by her voice, her energy and vitality.
